HAPPENING 2012 Art, Music, Photography & Archaeology in Sicily

Kalat Summer HAPPENING: Kalat is a project of youth tourism promoted in Sicily. So far more than 1000 young archaeologists & researchers from various parts of the world have arrived in Sicily since 1995 with XVI editions of Kalat’s International Summer Camps. They’ve been leading research activities on local heritage besides local youngsters & experts, with the scientific counselling of the University of Palermo & the supervision of the Superintendence of Cultural & Environmental Assets of Trapani & Agrigento, in order to reinforce the knowledge on the territory & contribute to the enhancement of the inner areas of the island & their conversion from a touristic approach.

With the support of the FONDAZIONE CON IL SUD, starting from this year Kalat offers a real breakthrough, transforming the traditional International Summer Camps of Archaeology into an international youth HAPPENING: international arts competitions & archaeological activities open to participation of artists, photographers, musicians & archaeologists as well. All this, under the slogan Youth, Tourism, Legality.

The HAPPENING is proposed as an innovative initiative targeted at the development of the area & as an exciting & unique international youth aggregation model: participating in one or more weekly turns, dozens of youngsters from all around the world will show their artistic talents & compete for the prizes in their discipline of interest: applied arts, music & photography, or contribute with their archaeological activity to the enhancement of some of the most important historical sites in the area, in collaboration with the local Superintendence.

All the HAPPENING participants will also be involved in other activities, such as antimafia initiatives, music concerts, exhibitions of results & guided visits to the Valley of Temples in Agrigento.
