Youth Municipal Councils are important in term of representation of interests, needs and initiatives of young people at local and regional levels. In order to discuss difficulties of youth participation at municipal level and to extend the question of youth representation, Cojep International presents its initiative to create the EUROPEAN FORUM OF YOUTH MUNICIPAL COUNCILS, the instance that will get together youth representatives from 47 states of the Council of Europe ( one from each country ). The first session of the Forum will take place from 27th June till 1st July 2013 in Ankara, Turkey.
The aim of the Forum is to favour and encourage the youth participation in local democracies by using principles and methods worked out within the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Council of Europe ( http://www.coe.int/t/congress ).
Our objectives are following:
- To draw attention to the importance of youth participation in local democracies;
- To discuss the difficulties of youth participation in local democracies and how to enlarge their representation;
- To ensure through workshops and conferences a training for young delegates on the improvement of youth participation concentrating on democratic conscience;
- To make easier for young people an access and broadcasting of decisions taken by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities on subjects concerning them.
Participants’ profile :
- be aged between 18-30;
- be resident in one of the Council of Europe’s member states;
- have good knowledge of English;
- be a member of the Youth Municipal Council or similar structure, an organism active in favouring of youth participation on local and regional levels;
- have an experience in youth participation in local democracies.
Practical information
All participation fees (travel expenses, accommodation, food) will be covered by organizers. Visa and insurance fees should be covered by participant or sending organization. If needed the organizers can prepare an invitation letter to be presented to consular structures.
Application procedure
The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe is responsible for the selection procedure. One representative from each member state who suits mostly all Forum’s criteria will be proposed by corresponding national delegation to the Congress of 47 member states of the Council of Europe
So, in order to take part in the Forum you need:
1.Enlist the support of your national delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities;
2.Provide the support letter from your national delegation;
3.Send us your filled application form (your national delegation disposes it) and the support letter.
