Nextgen Essay Competition
The EastWest Institute began over a beer in a Chinese restaurant in Lebanon with a modest proposal from co-founder Ira Wallach to John Edwin Mroz, current EWI president: "If you could do anything to make the world a safer place for my grandchildren, John, what would you do?"
John’s answer led to the creation of the EastWest Institute. Now we want to hear from the next generation. If you’re under 35 and passionate about changing the world for the better, tell us in 800 words or less:
IF YOU HAD THE MEANS, WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO MAKE THE WORLD A SAFER AND BETTER PLACE?
The five best submissions will be selected by a panel of EWI experts, with one of them then chosen as the winner and the others listed as finalists. We will base our judgments on the originality, creativity and viability of your ideas, together with the popularity of your entry among our Facebook fans.
The winning paper will be presented at the Worldwide Security Conference, EWI's annual gathering of high-level policy makers, business and investment executives and public opinion leaders from all over the world, taking place in Brussels, November 12-13. It will be an extraordinary opportunity for your ideas to play a part in this high-profile brainstorming on global security.
The winner will also receive a Google Nexus 7 tablet. The winning paper and the finalists will be featured on the EWI website as well.
Submissions will be accepted through September 27th, 2012.
