Youth Voice in the EU
The Make the Link Climate exChange project by Plan UK, is designed to promote learning, dialogue and action on climate change by linking young people in the UK with their peers in key at risk countries in Africa (Malawi, Kenya and Senegal) and two other countries in the EU (the Netherlands and Bulgaria). Students and teachers connect globally via an interactive and multi-lingual website where they can learn about sustainability and share views and experiences on global issues and take action together.
Their latest campaign is Youth Voice in the EU: working together to tackle climate change! The campaign is a culmination of 3 years of work enabling young people to actively voice their views on climate change in key decision making processes.
When given the opportunity we know young people can play a pivotal role in mitigating the impacts of climate change and contributing to adaptation strategies – yet young people’s views are rarely listened to.
The center piece of the campaign is a declaration to European Parliament calling on Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to engage directly and meaningful with young people and that sustainability be included in the school curriculum.
We need your help to make sure that young people’s voices are heard.
We need half of all MEPs to sign the declaration so we are calling on youth and environmental networks across Europe to support young people to lobby their MEPs to sign.
Support Youth Voice in the EU by:
- Contacting your MEPs individually or on behalf of your organization in order to show how much you care about this initiative. Sample postcard can be found at: http://www.mtl-cec.org/images/MEP/youthvoiceeu%20postcard.pdf and all the details of the MEPs at this link: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/performsearch.html
Together we can ensure that young people can voice their views and protect their future.
